Nestlé Advances Use of Green Electricity from Renewable Sources in Six Factories Collaborates with MEA and PEA on Utility Green Tariff 1 (UGT1) Program
Nestlé (Thai) Ltd. is moving forward with the use of green electricity from renewable sources at its six factories in Thailand. This initiative is a collaboration with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) under the Utility Green Tariff 1 (UGT1) program, which provides renewable power from unspecified sources. The collaboration aligns with Nestlé’s goal of using 100% renewable electricity in its factories in Thailand by the end of this year. It is also part of the company’s Net Zero 2050 roadmap, which aims to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Through this initiative, Nestlé is demonstrating its commitment to providing high-quality, tasty, and more nutritious products made with electricity from sustainable sources for Thai people at all life stages.
Under the collaboration, Nestlé has been using green electricity from renewable sources at its six factories in Thailand since July 2025. These facilities include the Nestlé ice cream factory in Bang Chan, coffee creamer factory in Bang Pu, Nestlé Waters factories in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Surat Thani provinces, and two pet food factories in Rayong province.
Mr. Philippe Glauser, Technical Director, Nestlé (Thai) Ltd., said, “Our collaboration with MEA and PEA under the Utility Green Tariff 1 (UGT1) program is a significant step for Nestlé Thailand in moving towards Net Zero 2050. Transitioning to renewable electricity is not an option; it is a necessity for sustainably protecting our planet. Nestlé is among the first FMCG businesses in Thailand to join the UGT1 program, ensuring that the electricity we use to produce our products is clean energy sourced from renewable sources including hydroelectric and solar power. This program is a continuation of our sustainability efforts that are both Good for You and Good for the Planet.”
Mr. Amphol Sanguanwong, Director of Power Economics Department, Metropolitan Electricity Authority, said, “MEA is pleased to begin supplying green electricity under the UGT1 tariff to Nestlé (Thai) Ltd. starting from the July 2025 billing cycle. This initiative reflects our strong commitment to promoting the use of clean energy and supporting the rapidly growing demand for green electricity in the industrial sector. It also plays a vital role in elevating Thailand’s industrial standards and enhancing the long-term competitiveness of businesses, while meeting future energy demands in a sustainable way.”
Ms. Suchada Kongdham, Director of Power Economics Policy Department, Provincial Electricity Authority, said, “This collaboration between Nestlé and PEA reinforces our commitment to promoting clean energy use and driving the nation towards its sustainability goals. Using electricity from renewable sources under the UGT1 program demonstrates a joint effort of the private and public sectors in supporting the transition to a sustainable energy system that will positively impact the economy, environment, and quality of life for Thai people over the long term.”
The collaboration with the MEA and PEA reflects Nestlé’s commitment to operating under ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles. This supports the company’s purpose of offering tasty and more nutritious products that are affordable while prioritizing the environment and society at every step of Nestlé’s business operations.
