Disrupt Health Impact Fund Expands Investment in AI Developer ‘Jona’ for Microbiome Data Analysis to Unlock New Preventive Healthcare Knowledge

Disrupt Health Impact Fund has expanded its investment in Jona, a U.S.-based company developing artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze microbiome test results—specifically the microorganisms in the human gut—with deeper insights than conventional testing kits. Building on the concept that microbiome balance is intricately linked to overall human health, Jona’s AI processes more than 200,000 scientific studies and continuously incorporates new global research to assess health risks and recommend personalized care and behavior modifications. The initiative aims to elevate the role of microbiomes in preventive healthcare and accelerate the discovery of new treatment approaches.

Mr. Krating Poonpol, Chairman of Disrupt Health Impact Fund, 500 TukTuks Fund and ORZON Ventures, stated that the microbiome—microorganisms found in the human gut—has long been a subject of scientific study and is now gaining increased attention. This is due to a growing body of credible research supporting its links to multiple aspects of human health, extending beyond gut health or wellness services to connections with the immune system, digestion, skin, brain, and even mental well-being. These findings are driving the emergence of new approaches to healthcare that complement conventional treatment methods.

Global pharmaceutical companies have started investing in microbiome research and development, while the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already approved the use of microbiome modulation as a treatment for certain medical conditions. This trend underscores the expanding potential of the microbiome market, both in the wellness and medical sectors.

According to Precedence Research, the global AI in healthcare market is projected to surge from USD 36.96 billion in 2025 to USD 613.81 billion by 2034, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 36.83%—a robust double-digit increase over the next decade.

Ms. Naranpat Thitipattakul, Partner of Disrupt Health Impact Fund, added that Jona has leveraged AI technology to overcome the limitations of microbiome test interpretation—a process made highly complex by the presence of more than 100 trillion microorganisms in the human gut and numerous interrelated factors. The ever-expanding body of research further reinforces the need for continual updates to test analysis methods.  Jona offers both at-home and clinical-grade test kits, which go beyond detecting bacteria to include other types of microorganisms. This enables a more comprehensive and deeper analysis compared to standard testing kits.

The company also provides a platform that processes test results and recommends personalized health care strategies and behavior modification approaches. Its AI engine draws insights from over 200,000 peer-reviewed medical research papers globally, helping physicians interpret test results with greater precision, backed by source data ranked by research reliability—making clinical application more practical and evidence-based. With its innovative “microbiome digital twin,” Jona simulates how specific dietary, lifestyle, supplements and medication interventions would impact their health, with all insights linked back to the source studies. This investment aims to accelerate advancements in microbiome technology, helping catalyze innovation across the healthcare industry and supporting tools that empower individuals to improve long-term health outcomes through behavior change.

In developing its large language model (LLM), Jona built the system entirely from the ground up. The company is supported by a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) comprising multidisciplinary experts—including specialists in AI, medicine, nutrition, and longevity science. This team plays a critical role in guiding product development and reviewing AI-generated outcomes, ensuring that Jona’s solutions are not only scientifically robust but also clinically relevant and aligned with real-world healthcare needs.

Leo Grady, PhD, Founder and CEO of Jona, stated that the company is honored to receive support from the Disrupt Health Impact Fund, which will help accelerate its goal of achieving tenfold growth. Jona’s core strength lies in its highly specialized AI, with models specifically trained on gut microbiome data. This enables more precise analysis of the relationship between microbial composition and health outcomes. Looking ahead, the company aims to scale globally and make microbiome testing more accessible and clinically impactful.

The Disrupt Health Impact Fund has an initial investment policy of approximately 17–25 million baht per company, with plans to invest in 15 healthcare DeepTech companies in Thailand and internationally over the next three to five years. The fund’s strategy is built around five key investment themes: self-care, preventive medicine, elderly care, holistic healthcare, and smart hospitals. The focus is on world-class innovations that are either already in the market or currently undergoing human trials for FDA approval.  Currently, the fund is backed by seven individual investors with strong interests in the health and wellness sector, and it remains open to strategic partners interested in co-investment. The fund continues to actively seek high-potential healthcare DeepTech companies to support.
